our st. john's heritage

St. John's United Church of Christ was founded in 1892 as the Bellefontaine German Evangelical Church, serving the small farming community of Chesterfield, Missouri. In the interceding decades, the German Evangelical Church merged with the Reformed church to become the Evangelical and Reformed Church, which subsequently merged with Congregational Christian Church in 1957 to form the United Church of Christ. Like the denomination, the community of Chesterfield has transformed over the years, from a quiet farming community to a bustling St. Louis County suburban community.

St. John's is currently blessed with many families who are actively involved in the ministry and events related to the church. Our modern facilities include a beautiful sanctuary that seats over 350 people, a large fellowship hall, gymnasium, several meeting and conference rooms, and numerous classrooms to accomodate our Sunday School and Pre-School activities.

St. John's offers a wide variety of programs for adults and children alike. On Sunday nights, "No Limits", our Junior- and Senior-high youth, meet for an evening of fellowship, spirituality, and fun. During the week, there are many other on-going activities, small group sessions, and the Wednesday night Logos Program.

Adult opportunites also abound at St. John's. Besides the regular Sunday morning Adult Bible Study, adults may elect to participate in a variety of groups such as Faith and Fellowship, Men's Fellowship, Woman's Fellowship, volleyball, and many other activities. Additionally, music plays an important role in the life of St. John's. Members may elect to choose from a large variety of musical interests.
